boast. It was called the Grand Hotel on wheels. Sometimes they referred to it as the railway link between Europe
and its ante-room; the East. Anyone with name and rank, travelled at least once on this famous train. Sometimes
it was a film star, as in Agatha Christie`s "Murder on the Orient Express", or in the James Bond Movie"From Russia with love".
The growth of air travel caused the glamour of the"Orient Express" to fade. Service was suspended in 1977.
But this "King of trains" did not languish in oblivion .The businessman and railway enthusiast James B. Sherwood
saved some of the valuable old carriages, and then spent 11 million pounds on restoring them! 100 years after its inauguration, the "Orient Express" hit the schedules once again. Now it has become a living invitation
to journey into the past.
This BAHNORAMA has painstakingly recorded all the minutiae of the rebuilt carriages and the luxury of the service. It has also captured the beauty of the journey, including a spectacular crossing of the Austrian Alps.
